Key Takeaways
- Stryax™ herbicide is a dicamba formulation for use in cotton with XtendFlex® Technology.
- Stryax is an option in managing glyphosate-resistant broadleaf weeds and other tough to control species in dicamba-tolerant soybean and cotton fields and is approved in 34 states; applicators require a pesticide license and must complete annual dicamba-specific training.
- Each application must include a qualified Volatility Reduction Agent (VRA) and a Drift Reduction Agent (DRA) at 0.3% v/v and Stryax cannot be tank mixed with ammonium sulfate (AMS).
- Users should check if fields are in Pesticide Use Limitation Areas (PULA) and need to calculate runoff mitigation points, coordinate with neighbors, keep records, and complete mandatory dicamba training annually.
What is Stryax™ Herbicide?1
Stryax™ herbicide is a restricted use pesticide, with a low-volatility dicamba (Group 4) formulation for in-crop use in cotton with XtendFlex® Technology. Three herbicide-tolerant cotton technologies are associated with this herbicide. Bollgard® 3 ThryvOn® cotton with XtendFlex® Technology, Bollgard® 3 XtendFlex cotton technology and Bollgard II® XtendFlex cotton technology. These are triple-stacked herbicide tolerant technologies with tolerance to dicamba, glyphosate, and glufosinate herbicides.
Where can I find Stryax herbicide labels and application information?
The label for Stryax Herbicide MUST be read and followed and can be found here.*1 Only certified dicamba specific trained applicators can apply Stryax Herbicide. Application requirement information as well as stewardship, label, and educational information can be found at http://www.stryaxapplicationrequirements.com2. Contact state department(s) of agriculture for the most current local guidelines for use in the area where an application will be made.
*Growers/applicators MUST read and follow the labels of ALL products applied to XtendFlex cotton. Stryax herbicide and products with XtendFlex Technology may not be approved for use in all states and may be subject to use restrictions in some states.
What should I consider when preparing to include Stryax herbicide in my weed management plan?
- Determine if your fields are in a Pesticide Use Limitation Area (PULA) by accessing Bulletins Live! Two3 from the EPA within 6 months of application. Additional application requirements may apply.
- Calculate runoff/erosion mitigation points for your fields.
- Outside of a PULA 3 points are required.
- Inside of a PULA 6 points are required.
- Consult your neighbors about their planting intentions.
- Plan your weed management program, including qualified VRAs and DRAs.
- Begin recordkeeping.
- Complete the annual mandatory dicamba application training.
What should I consider when preparing to include Stryax herbicide in my weed management plan prior to spraying Stryax?
You must consider mitigation points and find out how they are used.
Mitigations can be found:
- On the Stryax herbicide label1.
- Bulletins Live Two3 U.S. EPA
- EPA Mitigation Menu4 and PALM5 U.S. EPA
Is Stryax herbicide approved for use in my state?
As of April 28, 2026, Stryax herbicide is approved for use in 34 states (Figure 2). Check https://www.stryaxapplicationrequirements.com/ for state-specific labels, additional use options, restrictions or requirements, and any other state-specific information.
What training do I need prior to spraying Stryax herbicide?
In addition to a private or commercial pesticide license, applicators must complete annual mandatory dicamba training. Information about live webinars, in-person training, and self-paced online training is available at https://bayerstewardshiptraining.com/6. Georgia requires state-provided training, and more information can be found at https://agr.georgia.gov/dicamba7.
What are the recordkeeping requirements when spraying Stryax herbicide?
Record-keeping is required for applications of this product. Recordkeeping forms are available at stryaxapplicationrequirements.com. The Bayer Spray App may also be used for recordkeeping, as well as label and application requirements, resource materials, and weather forecasting from NOAA/NWS.
What are the application condition requirements for spraying Stryax herbicide?
- Always read and follow application conditions requirements listed on the label and at Application Requirements | Stryax Herbicide.
- Check growth stage, temperature, temperature inversions, wind speed, and forecasted rain.
- Do not apply if rainfall is expected within 4 hours of application or if rainfall within 48 hours could exceed soil field capacity.
What adjuvants are mandatory with Stryax herbicide and how much should be included?
A qualified Volatility Reduction Agent (VRA) like VaporGrip Xtra Agent plus an oil emulsion Drift Reduction Agent (DRA) that constitutes 0.3% volume-to-volume must be included for every application of Stryax herbicide.
Can I tank mix Stryax herbicide with glyphosate products?
Yes, Stryax herbicide can be tank mixed with glyphosate products. Always read and follow the label for the tank mix requirements of the crop protection product and its tank mix partners.
Can I include ammonium sulfate (AMS) with Stryax herbicide?
No. Stryax herbicide may not be tank mixed with AMS or any products containing AMS.
What is the residual activity of Stryax herbicide?
Provides up to 14 days of limited soil activity* on certain broadleaf weeds, helping to extend weed suppression beyond initial application.
*Areas with rainfall and/or irrigation after application with dicamba will have reduced or limited efficacy on emerging weeds.
What size should the downwind buffer be with Stryax and what are considered sensitive crops?
See the product label for buffer composition and options for reducing the buffer distance and what are defined as sensitive crops. Confirm presence and location of sensitive crops and plants. Prior to the season, consult with all neighboring growers and follow-up prior to application to determine if there are any changes in intentions.
Should I use specific nozzles when spraying with Stryax in my cotton fields?
Yes. Apply this product with nozzles calibrated to apply coarse or coarser droplets only in accordance with American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers Standard 572 (ASAE S572). Stryax herbicide may not be applied aerially or through irrigation equipment.
What is an example of how Stryax herbicide can be used in a cotton weed management system?
Table 1 listed below has examples of Stryax herbicide applications in cotton weed management using residual herbicides with XtendFlex Technology. The table includes what practice (burndown, pre, post, layby) timing (stages), and example tank mix recommendations for usage in cotton.
