The DuraZone “Own Your Zone” mobile tour was in Tampa this past weekend, and DuraZone was the sponsor for Pink Night Out at the Tampa Yankees minor league baseball game. This event was especially meaningful because we invited Bayer Environmental Science's Rosie Leach to be our special guest to throw the first pitch at the game!

Rosie’s younger sister (and best friend) was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 42 and lost her battle with the disease in 2008. Since then, Rosie has participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in honor of her sister. On Sept. 2, 2011, Rosie received the news of her own breast cancer diagnosis.

We are so inspired by Rosie’s positive outlook and a drive to live life to its fullest that Bayer Advanced presented a donation of $5,000 in Rosie and her sister’s honor to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Center.

As a sponsor of Pink Out Night, Bayer Advanced's DuraZone logo was shown on the JumboTron during the game, as well as a DuraZone product comparison video and TV spot. Fans attending the game were given DuraZone brochures and rebates as the left the stadium after the game.

Players wore custom made pink jerseys that were auctioned off during the game. All auction winners had the opportunity to have their picture taken and jerseys signed with the player who wore it at the conclusion of the game. Proceeds from the jersey sales went to the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute.

Although the Tampa Yankees lost 2-4 to the Lakeland Tigers, the event was a big win for breast cancer awareness. Thank you to everyone who attended, bid on the auctioned jerseys, and to Tampa Yankees for arranging this annual event. We had a wonderful time and we’re so honored to sponsor such a worthy cause. About the “Own Your Zone” Mobile Tour:
To generate awareness for the launch of its new weed and grass-killing product, DuraZone, Bayer Advanced is visiting home improvement stores and family-friendly events in 10 markets from April 13 to June 17 with the DuraZone "Own Your Zone" tour. The tour engages consumers via a series of themed zones that tie back to the brand’s message that using DuraZone gives consumers back more of their time to enjoy the zones outside of their house. The exhibit recreates three key outdoor zones – a patio, a driveway and a lounge area.

Visitors can enjoy lounging on the rooftop deck complete with snacks and refreshments, shooting hoops on a basketball court, and even playing a 3D video game where they can take out their frustrations by killing as many weeds as they can. Bayer Advanced Garden Expert Lance Walheim also is on hand to educate consumers on four varieties of common weeds. To drive people to the Bayer Advanced Facebook page, there is a laptop station where consumers can enter to win a $3,000 patio makeover.
