Did you know that hunger and malnutrition kill more people every year than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined[1]? Currently, approximately 13.1 percent of the world’s population is hungry. That’s roughly 925 million people who go undernourished on a daily basis, consuming less than the recommended 2,100 calories a day.[2]

In observance of World Hunger Day 2013, join Bayer CropScience in raising awareness of this issue by encouraging individuals and organizations to work in partnership with each other to end world hunger.

Bayer CropScience CEO Liam Condon advocates raising agricultural productivity through environmentally sound, sustainable measures which would improve crop protection and produce higher yields in order to minimize the hunger gap. [3] Condon said: "I believe we have great potential to make a positive difference: So let’s use 2013 as a turning-point year when we join forces to fuel a New Revolution in Agriculture that can help fight world hunger – and drive sustainability, economic growth, health, and nutrition today and tomorrow."

Bayer CropScience is invested in helping to solve world hunger by working to provide an abundant and nutritious food supply. Additionally, we are working to inspire the next generation to become involved in finding solutions for world hunger. In August 2013, Bayer will be hosting the “Feeding a Hungry Planet- Youth Ag Summit” with 4-H Canada. The purpose of the summit is to inspire youth to learn about world hunger and become involved in the movement towards providing solutions for hunger and malnutrition. The Summit program will include keynote speakers, group discussions and collaborations, educational tours and celebrations.

Near our North American headquarters in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, Bayer CropScience is sponsoring the Stop Summer Hunger campaign through a sponsorship with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. If you live in the area, please help out by donating food on June 1!

If you would like to become involved in the fight against world hunger and malnutrition, please contact any of the following organizations to learn more about what you can do:
