Arbor Day 2015 tree of life

By: Elanna Reiss, Brand Manager at Bayer Advanced

Arbor Day is a time to celebrate our nation’s trees, identify opportunities to plant new trees and raise awareness about the importance of keeping them strong and healthy.

This year, taking steps to keep trees healthy has reached increased levels of importance. Our trees are under attack every day from invasive pests such as emerald ash borer, hemlock woolly adelgid and Asian longhorned beetle – pests that are spreading to new states and counties all the time.

As these pests continue to spread, new stories emerge every day about municipalities that are cutting down trees – either as a preemptive action, or because these pests have destroyed them to the point of no return.

Trees do so much for us – they provide health benefits, property value and natural beauty. We do not need to let the insects win; we can fight back to protect our trees. There is a solution – by using Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Protect & Feed, we can save our trees from destructive insects.

Bayer Advanced has a relationship with the Arbor Day Foundation dating back to 2006. Initially, we focused on planting trees across the country. But as the Arbor Day Foundation mission has grown beyond planting to include the nurturing and celebrating trees, so too has our relationship.  Today we’re able to support the Arbor Day Foundation by focusing our efforts on educating homeowners on how to identify and protect trees from invasive pests.

And we’re going even further. The Healthy Trees for Life initiative we launched in 2014 had those same goals – going into communities and educating consumers. In some cases, we even rolled up our sleeves and treated area trees, in cooperation with a number of local partners.

The initiative has continued in 2015 with events in Philadelphia and Kansas City. This weekend, we’ll be in Davidsonville, Maryland, and Denver is on the horizon. Our efforts in these communities will help raise awareness about invasive pests and how consumers can fight back.

Working together, we can keep our trees healthy. We are grateful to all who have partnered with us in these efforts, and look forward to future partnerships.

Happy Arbor Day!
