Farmer with fresh vegetables #Thankful4Ag

By Jeff Donald, external communications

How do you like them apples, indeed.

According to our cool new quiz over on Thankful4Ag.com, I was meant to be a New York apple grower!  No wonder I’ve always dreamed of living somewhere that hot apple cider was appropriate year-round.

As someone who has only been involved in agriculture for a little over a year, I don’t think I’m at risk of taking over any orchards any time soon, but over the course of the past year I’ve certainly gained a new-found appreciation for growers of all types and their dedication to making all our lives better.

Perhaps like many of you, I had never really had much of a connection to agriculture.  I grew up in a fairly rural area surrounded by farms. My family bought vegetables from a local grower who would drive his pick-up truck through our neighborhood, I was a regular fixture at neighborhood farmer’s markets and goodness knows I love my food.  Other than that, none of my family and friends worked in ag and I had certainly never gotten a 3:00am wake-up call to tend to an ailing calf or sopped through muddy fields checking for damage from a summer storm.

I had an appreciation for ag, but without that personal connection, it was hard to be truly thankful.  And that’s where this year’s Thankful4Ag campaign comes in.  We hope to introduce you to some farmers who have dedicated their lives to putting food on your tables.  You’ll see that these folks share a lot in common with you.

Apple share resultsSo head over to Thankful4Ag.com and take the quiz to see what kind of farmer you should be. Be sure to share it with your friends and family and see what they were meant to be, too.  All the while, we’ll introduce you to some growers from around the country to share their stories and give you some cool facts you may not have known about ag.

Even better, every time you take and share the quiz or use the #Thankful4Ag hashtag on social media, we’ll donate $1 to Feeding America®.  Each $1 will help provide 11 meals through their nationwide network of member food banks.

We’re hoping to provide 330,000 meals* this year so we’ll need your help! It’s the perfect way of showing how thankful we all are for the work our farmers do to provide us with abundant, nutritious food.

So head over and take the quiz. Share your results on social media and drop us a note in the comments below to let us know what kind of grower you were meant to be.
