New FiberMax and Stoneville Varieties Announced!
Friday, March 18, 2016
I am very excited to inform you that we have advanced three new varieties to enhance the Bayer Cottonseed portfolio for 2016. All three of these FiberMax® and Stoneville® varieties contain Bayer proprietary traits with GlyTol®, LibertyLink® and TwinLink® (two-gene Bt) technologies, which allow for over-the-top applications of both glyphosate and Liberty® herbicides, plus broad-spectrum protection of major lepidopteran pests.
The FiberMax brand expands with the addition of FM 1911GLT (BX 1635GLT). This variety builds on the strengths of FM 2011GT with improved fiber quality, Verticillium wilt tolerance, traits to protect from insects and resistant pigweed while maintaining root-knot nematode resistance.
For the High Plains of the Southwest:
FM 1911GLT is very well adapted to the High Plains of the Southwest. This variety offers high yield potential with a very good fiber package. It features full tolerance to both Liberty and glyphosate herbicides plus broad-spectrum lepidopteran insect protection utilizing two Bt genes. FM 1911GLT has yield stability across multiple environments with a broad spectrum disease package.
The Stoneville brand has two new varieties, ST 4848GLT and ST 4949GLT. Each of these new varieties has a unique fit in the Cotton Belt, and we are excited about the additional traits that these varieties bring to the portfolio.
For Eastern Cotton Belt and East Texas:
ST 4848GLT is an early/medium maturing GlyTol LibertyLink TwinLink variety with exceptional yield potential and the added benefit of herbicide flexibility with the insect protection of TwinLink. ST 4848GLT is easy to manage with moderately aggressive growth habits. It is broadly adapted across the Eastern Cotton Belt and East Texas.
Eastern Cotton Belt and East Texas:
ST 4949GLT is an early/medium maturing GlyTol LibertyLink TwinLink variety with exceptional yield potential. It has good fiber quality with a very high lint percent. ST 4949GLT is easy to manage with moderately aggressive growth habits with intermediate Verticillium wilt tolerance. It is broadly adapted across the Eastern Cotton Belt and East Texas.
We are proud to offer cotton growers even more opportunities to experience the latest FiberMax and Stoneville germplasm with Bayer trait technology. These new offerings for the 2016 season join an already strong line-up to meet grower needs across the Cotton Belt.
