RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Bayer CropScience (www.bayercropscience.us), one of the world’s top innovative crop science companies in the areas of crop protection, non-agricultural pest control, seeds and traits, will join Triangle organizations in support of United Way of the Greater Triangle at the 2010 Women’s Leadership Council Awards Luncheon and Dessert Auction. The luncheon will be held Friday, Sept. 24 at Embassy Suites in Cary from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. At the luncheon, Bayer CropScience will unveil a video the company produced of this year’s Women’s Leadership Council Girls Leadership Camp. The video will be presented as a gift to the United Way of the Greater Triangle.
The event recognizes current women leaders in North Carolina as well as future leaders who participated in past WLC Girls Leadership Camps. The video features interviews with WLC members, campers and partnership organizations, and footage from the camp’s leadership workshops and activities. The camp enables girls ages 11-15 to discover their leadership potential and develop a project to give back to the Triangle community.
Proceeds from the luncheon will enable middle school girls from United Way’s partner youth agencies to participate in leadership training opportunities. RTI International will serve as the lead sponsor for the event, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, Duke Raleigh Hospital and SunTrust will serve as supporting event sponsors.
“Working with the Women’s Leadership Council to promote and honor leadership in our community is one of many ways that we are involved in and committed to improving the Triangle,” said Dr. Jacqueline Applegate, head of Bayer Environmental Science North America. “It’s an event that recognizes young women as well as prominent women in our society, and Bayer CropScience is proud to support this organization.”
- Local chefs and bakeries will donate desserts that will serve as auction pieces for the luncheon.
- Applegate serves as a member of the WLC’s 2010 Leadership Steering Committee.
- The Women’s Leadership Council aims to provide a forum for members to promote the exchange of ideas and experiences, provide networking opportunities, offer educational and cultural programs, enhance the growth of our members as leaders and decision makers and make a positive contribution to the next generation of women leaders. The WLC mission is to inspire, celebrate, educate, and engage women in philanthropy and community service to positively impact lives.
