Five communities are sharing a little of the good life with their canola-growing neighbors after being awarded grants through participation in the More for Everyone program, sponsored by InVigor canola hybrids from Bayer CropScience.
"Through stronger early season growth, effective weed control with Ignite® herbicide and consistently better yields, growers have benefitted from InVigor®canola for years," says Tom Schuler, BioScience Business Development Manager for Bayer CropScience. "We believe the benefits of InVigor hybrids result in More for Everyone – and this year, it’s a lot more. Because InVigor growers are pillars in their communities, expanding the vision of ‘everyone’ to include our customers’ communities seemed natural."
Growers who purchased their InVigor canola during the Early Book period before January 31, 2010, had the opportunity to nominate a deserving organization in need of funding. Of the 65 submissions, a three person panel of third-party judges chose the following recipients to receive a total of $25,000 in grants:
- Kiwanis Club of Rolla, in cooperation with Boy Scout Troop 71 in Rolla
- Osnabrock Barley Hall
- Over 55 Club of Max, in cooperation with Max Library
- Bowbells Fire Department
- Mott Volunteer Fire Brigade
"From the Boy Scouts who are building their own camp to the local fire departments that provide an important service to canola growers especially at harvest, the awarded organizations and institutions hold great value to their local communities," says Barry Coleman, executive director of Northern Canola Growers Association and one of the More for Everyone judges. "The More for Everyone program is about giving back to the communities that support canola growers and their families. Having a role in this program as a judge has been a privilege."
The organizations thanked their local canola growers at awards events held in each community from late March through April, right before the growers started planting their InVigor canola.
