This new supplemental label allows users to expand use rate on larger trees for invasive pest control
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (October 31, 2011) – Environmental Science, a business unit of Bayer CropScience LP, has announced a new supplemental Merit® insecticide label that will allow users to expand their use rate on larger trees for control of select invasive pests. Merit® 75 WSP, a wettable powder in water-soluble packets, and Merit® 2F, a suspension concentrate, provide excellent control of some of the most damaging invasive pests impacting America’s urban landscapes and forest land.
“For years Merit has been the industry leader in turfgrass grub control and now with a new supplemental label, Merit can be used to manage invasive pests like emerald ash borer on larger trees as well” said Cynthia Gigandet, insecticide product manager for Environmental Science. “Our customers can rely on the same consistent efficacy on turf and ornamental pests, but now with even greater flexibility.”
The new label allows for expanded uses to treat targeted invasive pests on trees with at least a 15” diameter at breast height (DBH), including:
• Emerald Ash Borer
• Asian Longhorned Beetle
• Eucalyptus Longhorned Borer
• Adler Borer
• Bronze Birch Borer
Merit can be used on trees, shrubs, flowers and groundcovers around industrial buildings, residential areas, interior plantscapes, and local and national forested areas.
Merit’s active ingredient, imidacloprid, provides an alternative to organophosphates and carbamates. Imidacloprid interferes with the normal nerve impulse transmissions of pests to provide effective control with a long residual.
