Bayer CropScience Donates to On-Going Flood Relief Efforts

Bayer CropScience makes donation to American Red Cross for each #BCSFloodRelief tweet

Research Triangle Park, N.C., July 25, 2011 – In response to historic flooding throughout much of the Midwest, South and Southeast, Bayer CropScience has donated $2,604 to American Red Cross relief efforts. To continue to bring attention to the issue, the company linked its donation to Twitter engagement.

During the course of two weeks, from July 11 to July 23, Bayer CropScience pledged to donate $5 to the American Red Cross for every account that tweeted with the hashtag #BCSFloodRelief. More than 250 people and organizations did their part in contributing to the money raised. In response to the positive support for the program, Bayer CropScience matched the total amount raised.

“The flooding we’ve seen this spring and summer has devastated so many lives and will impact agriculture over the next several years,” notes Jim Blome, President/CEO for Bayer CropScience. “It is important to Bayer CropScience that we are an active partner in the communities where we do business. The donation to the American Red Cross will assist relief efforts in all the U.S. regions affected by flooding this year. We hope that by engaging others through Twitter, we reminded Americans that help is needed still and will be needed long after the initial flood events.”
