Bayer Enters Industrial Vegetation Management Market with New Product

Matt Nespeca Announced as Business Manager of IVM Division

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (August 22, 2011) – Esplanade™ 200 SC will be the first product offered from the new industrial vegetation management (IVM) group of Bayer CropScience LP’s Environmental Science division. Esplanade offers extended residual broad spectrum weed control and low use rates.

“We are excited about the new IVM group, along with Esplanade which will be an outstanding product for this market,” said Gilles Galliou, vice president of commercial operations for Bayer. “Esplanade is the next generation in long-lasting, pre-emergent weed performance that answers the needs of today’s industrial vegetation managers and applicators. For customers seeking greater efficacy and improved safety, this product will provide an excellent solution for control of unwanted vegetation on roadsides, railroads and industrial areas.”

Esplanade is the most powerful cellulose-biosynthesis inhibitor (CBI) herbicide discovered to date with up to 60 times less active ingredient on the ground when compared to competitive products. It has superior broad-spectrum control of over 75 weed species that lasts up to eight months with a long-lasting residual. Esplanade is applied at low use rates of 3.5 to 7 ounces of product per acre.

To lead the IVM business, Bayer has announced the hire of Matt Nespeca as IVM business manager. Nespeca will focus on creating value with innovative technology and growing the group in a sustainable way.

“I am joining the Bayer team at such an exciting time,” said Nespeca. “It will be thrilling to lead this new business and enable it to grow in the coming years while overseeing ground-breaking research and products.”

Nespeca brings extensive sales experiences from companies such as American Cyanamid, BASF, and Nufarm. Nespeca has a bachelor of science in forest resources from Auburn University and a master of science in forest biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
