Producer Values Foundation Herbicide in Two-Pass Program

Producers like Mitch Corwine believe applying a solid pre-emergence herbicide, as a part of their two-pass philosophy, is vital for effective weed control that lasts throughout the season

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Fighting weeds early and often is a philosophy many two-pass farmers incorporate into their operations. Producers like Mitch Corwine believe applying a solid pre-emergence herbicide is vital for effective weed control that lasts throughout the season.

In fact, the Michigan City, Kan., farmer and dealer says he appreciated the value of his early season herbicide even more after he traded it in for another program last year. “We had been using Balance® Flexx herbicide as a pre on our conventional corn acres and had been getting along well with it. We only had to come in and spot spray with our post to clean up a few broadleaves. For the most part, the Balance Flexx did a really good job. Last year, I switched gears and went with a generic pre-emergence program. I wasn’t nearly as happy with the performance. I had to rely on Laudis® herbicide a lot more to come in and clean up broadleaf escapes. For the sake of trying to save money up front, I ended up dealing with larger weed escapes in my post program.” Corwine says after seeing the difference, he intends to go back to his original program.
