RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (Nov. 25, 3013) Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience LP, announced indaziflam, the herbicidal active ingredient (AI) in Specticle®, received an Agrow Award in the category “Best New Crop Protection Product.” Specticle is a pre-emergent herbicide that provides turfgrass professionals superior control of more than 90 grasses, broadleaf weeds and annual sedges at up to 40 times lower use rates than current standards.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Dr. Hermann Stübler, Head of Weed Control Research at Bayer CropScience, at the award ceremony in Amsterdam on Monday, October 28. “The need for new herbicides with alternative modes of action and resistance-breaking capabilities is more urgent than ever. In a team effort we created and developed indaziflam, employing our leading expertise in herbicide research and our deep knowledge of weed control.”

The Agrow Awards, presented by Agrow, a leading information provider for the global crop protection industry, provide the industry with the opportunity to showcase innovative excellence. The awards feature 15 categories in areas such as R&D, formulation technology, stewardship and corporate responsibility. The Best New Crop Protection Product or Trait category, open to all crop protection companies, recognizes the most important new crop protection product or trait launched between January 1, 2012 and April 30, 2013, including agrochemical, agbiotech and biopesticide products. Entries were judged by an independent panel of industry experts seeking a product that has demonstrated immediate commercial success, has long-term potential, stands ahead of its competitors in terms of efficacy, environmental or user safety, and has a demonstrable effect on the ability of farmers and growers to protect their crops.

Indaziflam belongs to the chemical class of alkylazines. The new compound controls a broad spectrum of weeds and provides excellent long-lasting efficacy at low application rates. This makes indaziflam an environmentally compatible and pioneering active ingredient in the global herbicides market. Marketed under brand names Alion®, in the agricultural market segment, and DuraZone®, in the home and garden segment, products based on indaziflam offer new tools to control a broad spectrum of weeds.
