Velum Total Insecticide FAQs

Velum Total Product Overview

What is Velum Total insecticide?

Velum® Total uses the power of two active ingredients to control nematodes and early season insects. Velum Total enhances root health and helps establish strong growth in peanuts and cotton. As an early season insecticide, Velum Total decreases the need for additional foliar sprays to regulate damaging pests.

Learn more about how Velum Total can protect crop yields on the Velum Total insecticide product page.

How does Velum Total work?

Velum Total inhibits nematode growth by attacking their cells’ mitochondria, which severely depletes their cellular energy. Fluopyram, an active ingredient in Velum Total, selectively inhibits Complex II of the mitochondrial respiratory chain in the mitochondria of nematodes, which results in immobility and death.

Velum Total Application and Use

When should Velum Total be applied?

Velum Total is an in-furrow treatment for use in peanuts and cotton. Applying Velum Total at planting can help reduce plant stress by protecting the seed at its most vulnerable stage and can improve the yield potential.

What is the use rate?

Cotton: 14-18 fl oz/Acre

Use the higher rate if pest infestations are expected to be severe. Apply specified dosage in the following methods:

  • In-furrow spray during planting directed on or below seed
  • Chemigation into root-zone through low-pressure drip or trickle irrigation

Peanuts: 18 fl oz/Acre. Apply specified dosage in the following methods:

  • In-furrow spray during planting directed on or below seed
  • Chemigation into root-zone through low-pressure drip, trickle or subsurface irrigation

What are the recommended tankmix partners?

Velum Total can be used with commonly used fungicide, herbicide, insecticide, and foliar nutrient products. However, the compatibility of Velum Total with all potential tank-mix partners has not been fully investigated.

What is the maximum amount of Velum Total that can be applied in one year?

Regardless of formulation or method of application, apply no more than 0.50 lb of imidacloprid or 0.45 lb of fluopyram active ingredient per year, including seed treatment, soil and foliar uses.

  • Do not apply more than 19 fl oz of Velum Total per acre per year.

What is the PHI for Velum Total?

Do not apply Velum Total within 30 days of harvest for cotton crops, or within 14 days of harvest for peanut crops.

Can fields treated with Velum Total be used for grazing?
