2017 Dryland Protection Program – East


The 2017 Bayer Shared Risk™ Program includes Dryland Protection for growers who follow Bayer recommendations and for whom drought causes yield to fall below 750 pounds per acre.

Dryland Protection Eligibility

The program applies only to dryland acres planted with Stoneville® or FiberMax® cotton seed.

To be eligible, a grower must plant Stoneville and/or FiberMax cotton seed on 30 percent or more of their total bags in Stoneville and/or FiberMax for 2017, excluding replant bags. The purchase requirement applies to all cotton acres including both irrigated and dryland.

April 3, 2017 through March 30, 2018

Program Requirements

  • Enrollment form and/or retailer invoice summary or copies of all purchase invoices for all cottonseed purchases for 2017 must be submitted to the Bayer Sales Representative by June 30, 2017.
  • If a grower has a claim, required documentation must include: signed Bayer Shared Risk claim form, FSA Form 578 and one of the following three documents to validate yield: insurance production worksheet, FSA Form 503, or gin tickets.


Reimbursement for the invoiced price of seed, trait, and, if applicable, Aeris®/Trilex® Advanced and COPeO™ Prime seed treatment and Velum® Prime Total, less per bag grower responsibility for 220K equivalent unit.

Coverage for Trait Technology

The Dryland Protection element of the Bayer Shared Risk Program protects grower’s trait investment, including:
  • LibertyLink
  • GlyTol
  • TwinLink
  • TwinLink Plus
  • Roundup Ready Flex
  • Bollgard II

Qualifying Customers

Cotton growers who use qualifying products purchased from a Bayer authorized agent (distributor), or sub-agent (retailer).

Payments will be released only to growers who have a valid signed Bayer Grower Technology Agreement and/or a Monsanto Technology Stewardship Agreement (required for Monsanto-traited seed).

Program Elements

Growing Practices:

Growers must use sound farm management practices, making every attempt to establish a stand and produce a crop. Growers are encouraged to follow Right Variety. Right Field. Right Yield.™ strategy.

Planting multiple varieties on their farm will increase profit potential and reduce risk.

General Program Requirements:

The program applies only to dryland acres planted with FiberMax and/or Stoneville cotton seed.

Best Management Practices established by University Extension Service for local growing region must have been followed:

  • Planting Date
  • Weed Control
  • Other Acceptable Farming Practices

Program Procedures

  • Growers must notify the agent/sub-agent, from whom the seed was purchased, of the grower shared risk protection claim.
  • Grower must furnish correct mailing addresses with verifying documentation as required on the claims reimbursement form.
  • Validation of seed purchases will be conducted prior to processing claim.
  • For replant, the agent/sub-agent will contact the local Bayer Sales Representative prior to replant.
  • For crop loss, the agent/sub-agent will contact the local Bayer Sales Representative within 10 days of the crop loss.
  • All claim forms must be signed by the grower, agent/sub-agent, and sales representative.
  • Bayer Sales Representatives must submit within two weeks subsequent to published deadline dates.
    • Replant: June 30, 2017
    • Crop Loss: August 31, 2017
    • Dryland Protection less than 750 lbs.: March 30, 2018
  • Bayer Sales Representative will verify the need for grower shared risk reimbursement.
  • Bayer representative must inspect the field prior to tillage or replanting.
  • Claim reimbursement will be mailed to the Bayer Sales Representative, delivered to the agent/sub-agent and made payable to the grower.
  • Claims will be audited.
  • Bayer shall be the final arbiter as to the cause of loss.
  • Grower agrees to allow inspection of field by Bayer representative.
  • Growers who plant FiberMax and/or Stoneville with Monsanto technology, e.g., Genuity® Bollgard II and/or Roundup Ready Flex traits must have a valid Monsanto Technology Stewardship Agreement.
