Bayer Sets the Stage for Soybean Innovation with New Product Pipeline
As they face increasing challenges, soybean farmers rely on varieties that perform consistently and agronomic products that deliver on their promises. That’s why Bayer is committed to providing a robust pipeline of new technologies. As a leader in product innovation, Bayer is positioned to deliver the next generation of Asgrow® soybeans. These advancements will provide farmers with trait packages designed to address today’s production challenges while helping protect potential profitability and yield.
Bayer continues to be the industry leader in agricultural research and development. Their commitment to innovation has allowed farmers who choose Asgrow varieties to offer consistent, high-yield performance, even through evolving challenges.
Among these new technologies is Vyconic™, a groundbreaking fourth-generation soybean trait package that is poised to revolutionize weed management for Asgrow soybeans starting in 2027. This new trait stack is engineered to deliver unparalleled flexibility and resilience in the face of weed resistance challenges.
Bayer states Vyconic is the first soybean trait in the industry to feature tolerance to five herbicides: glyphosate, glufosinate, dicamba, 2,4-D and mesotrione. By integrating two additional herbicide tolerances on top of the XtendFlex® suite, Bayer will significantly enhance options for broadleaf weed control and resistance management.
According to Bayer technical product lead Jagdeep Kaur, early trial data indicates that Vyconic varieties are at or above the standard XtendFlex soybean check, showcasing both productivity and resilience. Additionally, Bayer has developed varieties across a broad maturity range, from group 000 up to group 7, ensuring adaptability across diverse growing regions.
“Not only are we going to see that yield bump from Vyconic when it comes out, but we’re also going to see a wide swath, our deepest portfolio, in terms of maturities,” Brittany Eubank, Asgrow brand manager, said.
Unveiled at Commodity Classic in March 2025, Vyconic is slated for commercialization by the 2027 planting season, pending regulatory approvals in the U.S. and Canada.
“With the exclusive genetics coming to the Asgrow portfolio, I can’t think of a better package that’s going to be out in the marketplace,” Eubank said.
Another exciting innovation in the Bayer pipeline is HT5. This fifth-generation soybean herbicide tolerance builds on the success of previous trait platforms by introducing tolerance to PPO herbicides, giving farmers yet another powerful tool for tackling tough weeds.
With six herbicide tolerances — glyphosate, glufosinate, dicamba, 2,4-D, mesotrione and now PPO — HT5 offers unmatched flexibility and broad-spectrum control of both grass and broadleaf weeds. This next phase is designed to help farmers stay ahead of resistance challenges while providing more reliable, field-tested solutions to protect yield potential.
Finally, Bayer’s diflufenican, marketed under the brand Convintro™, is a pre-plant or pre-emergence phytoene desaturase (PDS) inhibitor specifically targeting difficult-to-control weeds like Palmer amaranth and waterhemp. Trials have shown that Convintro demonstrates durable efficacy throughout the early growing season. While diflufenican may cause transient crop response, this effect typically dissipates and does not impact final yield, as confirmed in Bayer field trials.
