No matter the time of year, region, or crop type, an insect could be waiting to take a bite out of your yield potential. While the root cause of an insect infestation can greatly vary, there are precautions you can take to ensure your crop reaches its full potential. When it comes to preventing insect infestations, Bayer offers a wide range of efficacious products to help protect your crops from seed to harvest.

When insect populations warrant foliar insecticide applications, Sorghum growers can use Baythroid® XL insecticide. Baythroid XL has the broadest pyrethroid label available for consistent performance on a broad spectrum of insect pests, with fast knockdown and long residual control. Baythroid® XL also can help manage other insects associated with cereals. Baythroid XL performs on a broad spectrum of cereal insect pests, with fast knockdown and long residual control. At-planting application is recommended; however, Baythroid XL can be used all season long.

Technical Development Rep Kevin Thorsness stated, “Baythroid XL is helpful in the management of a variety of insects when applied early season with an herbicide such as Huskie® herbicide. It is also helpful in the management of aphids, which can transmit barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) when applied late season with Prosaro® fungicide,” Thorsness added.

Application timing should be based on careful scouting and local economic thresholds. Follow IPM guidelines to effectively use postemergence insecticides as needed and manage insecticide resistance in combination with other control practices.
