Bayer CropScience Donates Nearly $365,000 to the United Way

December 16, 2014

Approximately $331,000 will go towards providing food security, housing and education to Triangle community members in need

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (December 17, 2014) – Committed to fulfilling its mission of “Science For A Better Life,” Bayer CropScience and its employees have raised nearly $365,000 for the United Way, of which almost $331,000 went to the United Way of the Greater Triangle and its partner agencies. Bayer CropScience employees also collected more than 3,200 pounds of food for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, a United Way-supported partner agency. Monetary donations were gathered this fall through multiple fundraising efforts, including employee contributions and a company matching gift program, while food was collected across four sites in the Research Triangle Park area in the annual company “Food Fight.”

“At Bayer CropScience, our employees are passionate about giving back to the community and helping our neighbors in need,” said Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience LP and head of Crop Protection North America. “Through partnerships with organizations like the United Way of the Greater Triangle and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, we are able to foster our employees’ dedication to improving the communities where they live, work and play.”

Bayer CropScience has partnered with the United Way of the Greater Triangle for the past 16 years, raising nearly $3.8 million to support the nonprofit’s mission of championing lasting change in the community through food security, housing and education. Bayer CropScience also actively participates in programs such as the Women’s Leadership Council “Discover the Leader in You” camp.

“Bayer CropScience’s mission to enhance world food security, lead innovation and drive partnerships align well with United Way’s evolving role in our Triangle community,” said Allison Warren-Barbour, Vice President of Resource Development & Engagement for United Way of the Greater Triangle. “United Way of the Greater Triangle is proud to partner with Bayer to work collaboratively on innovative solutions and mobilize community resources to bring about long-term solutions. Together, we can create significant, lasting changes in the lives of our neighbors.”

The 3,235 pounds of food collected for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is part of an ongoing effort with the Food Bank. Earlier this year, Bayer committed to a $300,000 donation to the food bank to support the nonprofit’s Weekend Power Pack program. This latest donation, together with the company’s work through the Weekend Power Pack Program, will help provide more than 500,000 meals to Triangle households experiencing limited or uncertain access to food, and at times are unsure of where they will find their next meal.
