From Seed to Harvest: Bayer Cereal Solutions

wheat field

From seed to harvest, Bayer offers innovative solutions for a successful wheat crop.

A successful harvest is a season-long process. And using the right products along the way can help you maximize yields. To help you make the most of the growing season, Bayer® offers a broad portfolio of innovative cereals solutions from planting to harvest.

Genetics

A successful growing season starts with high-quality, certified seed. Choosing certified seed ensures nearly every seed put in the ground is viable and the seed-lot is weed-free. Careful seed selection will also help you target your seeding rate.

With exceptional germplasm and breeding innovation, the Westbred®  seed portfolio includes proven, region-specific varieties that are locally tested to deliver excellent yield potential.

To determine which variety is best for your operation, it is important to do your research, talk with your local Bayer Cereal Expert and work with your local seed supplier.

Early-Season Pest Management

To maximize potential of the seed, you should also select a seed treatment to provide protection from early-season seed and soil-borne diseases and insects. Seed treatments can also increase germination rates, vigor and root development of plants.

For broad-spectrum protection from insects and disease, choose a seed treatment such as Raxil® Pro ShieldRaxil® Pro MD, or Gaucho® XT.  You may also consider using EverGol® Energy, an innovative seed treatment fungicide that promotes more root growth for faster crop establishment.

Integrated Weed Management

Your wheat crop competes with a variety of weed species for valuable resources, such as nutrients, sunlight and water, translating to yield loss.

To start with a cleaner field, use a pre-emergence application of Olympus® herbicide, tankmixed with RT3® herbicide or another Roundup® brand agricultural herbicide to knock out weeds pre-planting. To help keep fields clean of many grass and broadleaf weeds, follow with a postemergence application of Huskie® Complete herbicide or Luxxur™ herbicide.

With three sites of action, Huskie Complete herbicide provides all-in-one weed control of most grass and broadleaf weeds, including resistant weeds. In addition, Huskie Complete herbicide offers a flexible application window, however, early application can help growers maximize performance and profit.

Another option for postemergence control of many grass and broadleaf weeds is Luxxur herbicide. This new herbicide from Bayer provides control of grass weeds including foxtails and wild oats and tackles broadleaf weeds including perennials like Canada thistle and common dandelions. In addition to weed control, Luxxur herbicide offers rotational flexibility, season after season.

Integrated Disease Management

When it comes to managing leaf and head diseases, fungicides are an important tool to rely on for protecting yields and grain quality. A fungicide application at Feekes 10.5.1 (early flowering) can help manage scab, which in turn helps reduce vomitoxin (DON) levels in grain. Spraying a fungicide also helps with kernel development, resulting in better test weight.

With proven performance, Prosaro® fungicide provides broad spectrum control of scab and other head and leaf diseases. In addition, Prosaro fungicide delivers a combination of increased yield and improved grain quality that results in greater profit potential. Prosaro fungicide can be applied at a flexible rate, ranging from 6.5 oz./A to 8.2 oz./A, with a target application rate of 8.2 oz./A for better performance when disease pressure is high.

With innovative solutions from planting to harvest, Bayer offers a full spectrum of solutions to help you make the most out of the growing season.
