New, Safened Dicamba Premix Helps Growers Control Weeds in Corn

August 29, 2016

Innovative new corn herbicide DiFlexx® DUO registered in U.S.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (August 30, 2016) – Corn growers now have access to a new tool to help manage resistant weeds like Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and marestail while maximizing their corn yields with DiFlexx® DUO corn herbicide from Bayer. The new herbicide is a unique combination of dicamba and HPPD in a liquid formulation for exceptionally strong and convenient weed control. Approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), DiFlexx DUO will be available to corn growers nationwide with the exception of California, Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts.

The unique formula in DiFlexx DUO makes it the first product to combine an effective HPPD inhibitor with dicamba, plus Bayer patented CSI™ Safener technology, making it the newest technology created to address your tough-to-kill weeds. This formula will provide growers with a fast, effective solution to control more than 100 grasses and broadleaf weeds like waterhemp, kochia and Palmer amaranth, with the added benefit of residual. It will also allow corn plants to better withstand herbicidal activity, which can lead to increased root growth and improved plant health.

“DiFlexx DUO gives U.S. corn growers a new tool that they’ve never experienced before,” said Jason Manz, selective corn herbicides product manager for Bayer. “The chemistry in DiFlexx DUO with Bayer CSI Safener gives growers simplified, effective control of weeds, including glyphosate-resistant ones, all the way up to V10.

“The safener technology also allows for active soil and foliar uptake,” said Mark Waddington, product and crop development manager at Bayer. “Growers can apply it on any soil type with crop compatibility.”

Growers can use DiFlexx DUO safely on field corn, field corn grown for silage, white corn, seed corn and popcorn. It also has a wide range of tankmix compatibility and flexible use rates ranging from 24-40 oz/A.

For optimal weed control, apply broadcast spray applications from pre-plant burndown through V7 and post-directed spray applications from V7 to V10. Applications may be made up to 36” tall corn or 15 days prior to tassel. Early postemergence application is recommended for best weed control (weeds less than 3” tall) and crop yield potential.

“We’re really excited about what we see with this new product. It’s definitely changing the way growers view weed management in their fields and will help them confidently improve their herbicide programs through the Bayer product portfolio,” Manz concluded.
