Bayer hit the road to promote bee health by continuing its Tour across the country at top agriculture universities and Commodity Classic
(Feb. 20, 2014) – Bayer CropScience continued its second annual Bee Care Tour
, a mobile tour designed to emphasize the important role bees play,
by making its third stop at Oregon State University in Corvallis. The Tour aims to facilitate education and collaboration among growers, beekeepers and researchers to promote best stewardship practices and bee health.
Highlights from the stop included:
- A panel discussion featuring Dr. Louisa Hooven, assistant professor and senior researcher in Oregon State University’s Horticulture department; Dr. Jerry Bromenshenk, co-founder of Bee Alert Technology, a honey bee research and service company; and Scott Dahlman, executive director at Oregonians for Food and Shelter.
- A featured presentation on how honey bees and crop protection can coexist to create a sustainable agriculture from Dr. David Fischer, director of Environmental Toxicology and Risk Assessment at Bayer CropScience.
- A Bee Care Tour exhibit that featured an interactive display on Bayer’s Varroa mite research, new Bee Care Center and Fluency Agent trials and development. The exhibit included a honey tasting bar with several different flavors of honey, including a local honey produced in Corvallis.
- A pollinator-inspired lunch, including foods pollinated by honey bees.
Next week, the Bee Care Tour will travel to Commodity Classic in San Antonio, Texas (Feb. 27-March 1). The Tour will then travel to South Dakota State University in Brookings (March 12); Purdue University in West Lafayette (March 20); and last, but not least, the Tour will make a final stop in Washington, D.C. to celebrate National Pollinator Week (June 16-23).
